Just because Mercedes-AMG is building the nutball GT R,
doesn't mean the automaker doesn't have something even crazier in the
works. Yep, an AMG GT Black Series is on its way—just as soon as the
company figures out how to make it suitably special.
In an interview with Top Gear,
AMG boss Tobias Moers confirmed the GT Black Series is in the works,
likely to arrive in 2018. Moers doesn't offer anything in the way of
specifics regarding the changes made to the Black Series, but he
promises something that will live up to the name.
"Theoretically
we're working on a Black Series, putting together all our ideas on what
we can do for that car, but I don't just want an overpowered machine,"
Moers told Top Gear. "I guess just adding another aero element to the GT R is not enough for a Black Series. I do have some ideas..."
Previous
examples of the Black Series badge, like the SLS and C63, were the most
powerful and track-focused versions of those models available. With the
AMG GT R filling that bill currently, the GT Black Series will need to
up the ante in a major way.
Well, we know AMG's 4.0-liter V8 makes 603 horsepower in the E63 S, so that seems like a good place to start for the GT Black Series.
